5th grade fall break we decided to take a last minute trip down to the beach for 3 nights and 4 days for a numbers of reasons. 1) We didn't take any sort of vacay over the summer because of HC's right foot reconstruction surgery. 2) We had a few days off of school and volleyball. 3) We needed something to take our minds off the fact that HC had to undergo another surgery to remove some hardware that Monday. So … we booked a little condo right on the beach in Gulf Shores. We got in around 10pm on Thur night and went straight out to the ocean. We spent 2 hours playing and admiring the beauty of the waves, the sky and each other. It was perfect.
Friday - We woke up the next morning and spent the entire day on the beach. The girls were in love. I was in love with this perfect day at the beach with just my little family. Jamie was in love watching his girls in serenity. We ended this perfect day with an awesome seafood dinner.
Saturday - PROBLEM - Hurricane NATE was headed our way. We were on an island with 1 way out! The ferry was closed because of the storm heading our way. They issued a mandatory evacuation OR plan on being stuck on the island for days, most likely without electricity. We were all okay with being stuck here except We HAD TO BE HOME Monday morning at 5:30am from HC's surgery. Major dilemma! We decided to be grownups and make the right decision. Blah Blah Blah. So we packed up Sat. morning and headed home … just as the storm was rolling in.
Without a doubt … still …. the best 36 hours EVER on a beach despite NATE.
